How to Become an Accredited Registrar

The Registrar Application Process may at first seem a little confusing considering that the change from Legacy to EPP happened nearly over night.

In this post we’ll try our best to explain the process and put together a brief and concise guide of how to become an Accredited Registrar.

ZACR (the ZA Central Registry) provides applications for Registrars during their Application Windows. These application windows are published on the ZACR web site and when available, you will be able to register and account with ZACR and start your application. If you don’t have the time to check the ZACR website on a weekly basis then you may want to subscribe to our RSS feed as these dates are published when the next application window is opened.

The application process is as follows

  • Register for a Registrar Account via the ZACR web site.
  • Accept and agree to the Registrar Agreement.
  • Pay ZACR the required amount for your Registrar Application.
  • Upon proof of payment receive your ZACR OT&E credentials. These credentials are used for completing your Technical Accreditation.
  • Complete the technical Accreditation
  • Upload your certificate and source IP addresses to the Registry Portal.
  • Await legal accreditation. This process is handled by ZACR and it includes validation of the documents submitted to them at the time of accepting the Registrar Agreement.
  • Await confirmation of your approval as an Accredited Registrar along with your Live EPP Credentials.

The above process sounds very confusing in particular the parts about technical accreditation so here is a further break down.

After you have applied for a Registrar account and paid the setup fees you ZACR expect you to pass a technical test to prove that you understand EPP, this is called technical accreditation.

If you are fortunate to understand EPP then the process is simple and you should be able to complete your accreditation within a few hours, HOW EVER if you no have clue as to what this is all about  then read on.

Fortunately we do provide an assisted technical accreditation service at a nominal fee and you can request that we attend to this on your behalf by requesting the assisted accreditation from our Contact Page

After we have completed your technical accreditation you are then free to either develop your own software which integrates into the EPP systems or make use of ZA Domains, a hosted enterprise solution which allows you to manage domains without any need for software or coding on your end.
